Professional date calculators convert each date to a Julian Day Number — a continuous count of days since January 1, 4713 BC. To find the days between two dates, they simply subtract one Julian Day Number from the other.

Example: March 1, 2025 → Julian Day Number: 2460735 October 3, 2025 → Julian Day Number: 2460921

Difference: 2460921 − 2460735 = 186 days

This method automatically handles all month lengths, year changes, and leap years — because every date maps to one unique integer, and subtraction always works.

Leap Year Handling

A leap year occurs when the year is:

• Divisible by 4 AND
